Welcome to the web pages of GIDAS

Here you will find information on the GIDAS
(German In-Depth Accident Study)project, the largest accident data collection project in Germany.

The data collected in the GIDAS project are very comprehensive and interdisciplinary. They act as a knowledge base for various interest groups and serve to improve traffic and vehicle safety. A well-defined sampling procedure ensures the representativeness of the data in comparison to federal statistics.

Since July 1999, the GIDAS project has been collecting around 2000 traffic accidents involving personal injury per year in the Hannover and Dresden metropolitan areas. The project is supported by the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) and the Forschungsvereinigung Automobiltechnik e.V. (Automotive Research Association). (FAT). Details on the financing and composition of the project committee can be found under the menu item "About GIDAS"."Über GIDAS".

The accident surveys and reconstructions are carried out by the two research participants, Traffic Accident Research at TU Dresden (VUFO) and Accident Research at Hannover Medical School.
